Snow walking short week breaks
19th to 23rd January; 26th to 30th January; 2nd to 6th
February2005
Difficulty Level 2
Price: £388 per person without flight
This is a three day walking tour. You
will be lead by both Jonathan and Philippe Cazes. Philippe
is a local guide from the village of Castillons. Though
snowshoe walking is easy to learn we will spend the
first day getting used to using them, and learning some
useful techniques. Much like with normal walking tours
we begin walking after breakfast, ascend to a high spot,
eat our picnic lunch, then descend to the pick-up point.
We will walk for up to 6 hours during the day, and we
are outside from 9.3Oam to 4pm most days.
The itinerary -
Day 1
the group is picked up at Toulouse airport and brought
back to Castillon en Couserans.
A short walk will be possible around the village if
there is time before drinks and dinner is served at
7.30pm
Day 2
After a hearty breakfast we leave in our vehicle to
the start of the walk. We drive up to a spot above the
lake of Bethmale to do a circular walk around the valley
of Campuls. We will eat our picnic in a suitably beautiful
spot with wonderful views of the high mountains and
the valleys to the north of Castillon. We drive back
to the house in the early afternoon.
The evening meal will be prepared by Myriam at the house.
Day 3
We drive in an easterly direction to the end of the
valley of Bellongue, to the village of Portet D'Aspet.
From here we walk up to the Pouech de St.Lary at 1700meters,
which is a flat peak with wonderful views towards Spain
and the highest peak in the Pyrenees, Aneto, which hovers
above over 3000 meters. We return to the house in the
late afternoon after 6 hours walking or so.
The evening meal will be prepared by Myriam at the house.
Day 4
We drive in to the valley of Massat which is the next
valley to the west of Bethmal. We walk up to the Port
de L'Hers via the Pas de Bispoux, and Rocher de Mérigue.
There are wonderful views of the good views of the eastern
end of the Pyrenees. We eat our picnic lunch above the
Lake of L'Hers. Return to the house in the late afternoon.
Up to 6 hours walking.
The evening meal will be prepared by Myriam at the house.
